Lomito Arabe

a popular street food sandwich that wraps thinly sliced grilled steak tenderloin inside Arabic pita bread

Ingredients:

Main:

  • 1 pound tenderloin or sirloin steak (short thin slices)
  • 3/4 white onion (sliced)
  • 3 Pitas (or other wraps)
Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup whole milk yogurt
  • 1/4 white onion (diced)
  • 2 tbsp cilantro (minced)
  • 1 lime (juiced)
  • 4 tbsp mayo
  • 1 tbsp butter (melted)
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
Vegetables:
  • 2 cups cabbage (shredded)
  • 1/4 cup lettuce (shredded)
  • 1 tomato (sliced)
Instructions:
  1. Generously season the steak salt and pepper and leave it in the fridge for at least 1 hour. (Up to 24 hours)
  2. In a bowl, whisk the yogurt, garlic powder, cilantro, lime juice, mayo, curry powder, cumin, melted butter, diced onions, salt, and pepper and put aside in the fridge.
  3. Slice the tomatoes and shred the lettuce and cabbage and put it aside in the fridge.
  4. Add 1 tbsp of butter and sauté the onions. Add the tenderloin and cook until medium rare. Add cabbage and cook for 2-3 minutes or until cabbage cooks through.
  5. Take the pita and spread the sauce on it, adding the steak, then the lettuce and tomatoes. Put more sauce on top or to your liking.
Notes:

You can use sour cream or cottage cheese if you don't have yogurt.
