Dry Ice Root Beer

a traditional, made-from-scratch, satisfying root beer made from real herbs and roots
Ingredients:
- 1 gallon (4 quarts) water, divided in half
- 1-2 tablespoon sarsaparilla root bark (see notes)
- 1-2 tablespoon sassafras root bark (see notes)
- 1-2 tablespoon birch bark (see notes)
- 4 sprigs (or 2 teaspoons dried) chocolate mint or spearmint
- 3 star anise pods
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed ginger
- 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
Instructions:
- Add sassafras, sarsaparilla, birch, mint, star anise, ginger, and vanilla into a tea bag.
- Add 2 quarts of water to a saucepan and add the teabag. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and cook for 10 minutes. Remove pot from heat, cover, and let steep for 2 hours.
- Remove the teabag and add the remaining 2 quarts water along with the sugars. Stir until mixture is integrated, then cover.
- Cool the liquid in the fridge, then add the dry ice.
- Serve and enjoy!
